See DetailsHow We Helped a Customer Solve Color Difference Issues in Soft-Touch Spray Coating
For cosmetic packaging, color consistency is more than a visual detail. It directly affects brand image, shelf presentation, and customer trust. Recently, our team helped a customer solve a color difference issue during the soft-touch spray coating process for cosmetic packaging.
The Challenge: Color Difference After Soft-Touch Coating
The customer required a premium soft-touch finish for their cosmetic packaging. The surface needed to feel smooth, refined, and comfortable in hand, while matching the approved brand color as closely as possible.
However, during the initial sampling stage, a visible color difference appeared after spraying the soft-touch coating. Although the base color was close to the target sample, the final appearance changed slightly after the coating was applied. This is a common challenge in cosmetic packaging decoration, especially when matte, frosted, or soft-touch finishes are involved.
Why Color Difference Happens
Color difference may occur for several reasons:
Different plastic materials may absorb or reflect color differently.
Soft-touch coating can change the final visual effect of the base color.
Spray thickness, drying temperature, and curing time can affect the final shade.
Lighting conditions may make the same color look different.
Matte and soft-touch finishes often reduce gloss, which can make colors appear deeper or softer.
Because of these factors, color matching for cosmetic packaging cannot rely only on the original color formula. It requires repeated testing, comparison, and adjustment.
Our Solution
After receiving the customer’s feedback, our team quickly reviewed the sample and production process. We compared the approved color standard with the sprayed samples under different lighting conditions and checked the coating thickness, spraying angle, and drying conditions.
To reduce the color difference, we made several adjustments:
Adjusted the base color formula before spraying
Controlled the soft-touch coating thickness more carefully
Tested different spraying parameters
Compared samples under natural light and standard light box conditions
Prepared revised samples for customer confirmation
Through these steps, we helped the customer achieve a final color closer to the approved standard while keeping the premium soft-touch hand feel.
The Result
After adjustment, the customer confirmed the improved sample. The final packaging maintained a smooth soft-touch finish and showed better color consistency across the product surface.
This case also helped us build a more reliable control process for future soft-touch coating projects.
